Photo Credits — Rocklands Bouldering Guide

Every photograph on this site, who took it, and the licence it's used under.

Every bouldering photograph on this site was taken by Oan de Waal, a South African photographer who works as lumos.photography. He shot them at Rocklands across several winter seasons and licensed them to this site directly. Nothing here is scraped, and nothing is lifted from the guidebook, the operators or Google Maps. Where we could not establish who took a photograph, we did not publish it.

On licences

Oan de Waal holds the copyright in his photographs. He granted this site a free licence in September 2026 for non-commercial use on rocklandsguide.com, and that is the only place they appear. The licence does not run to anyone else, to any other site, or to social, print or commercial use, and it does not transfer if this site ever changes hands. If you want to license his work, go to lumos.photography. If he asks for them to come down, they come down the same day.

The fixed background photograph is Creative Commons and requires the photographer to be named, which is why Dana Rader is named here and in the footer of every page.

We previously ran five photographs whose photographers we could not establish, because we had not recorded them at the time. Rather than keep publishing work without naming the person who took it, we pulled all five. We now record the photographer and the source the moment an image arrives.

Icons and the mark

The small interface icons are Lucide (v1.47.0), used under the ISC Licence — Copyright © 2026 Lucide Icons and Contributors. Permission to use, copy, modify and distribute is granted provided the copyright notice and this permission notice appear in all copies. We inline the glyphs rather than loading the library, so the site makes no third-party request for them.

The site mark — a lit sandstone block under the Cederberg night sky — is our own drawing, built from the same palette as the rest of the site. It is a single SVG and it doubles as the favicon and, on phones, as the wordmark in the top bar.

The accommodation cards on the homepage use a generated surface rather than a photo. That is deliberate: we do not have photographs of Traveller's Rest, de Pakhuys or Kliphuis, and a generic Cederberg landscape sitting on their card would imply we do.
